Gainesville Duval Park Trail and Parking
The City wanted to add improvements to the east end Duval Park, a large wetland park with walking trails in east Gainesville. The improvements consisted of a parking lot instead of grass parking, playground equipment, and a concrete walking trail along the berm of the wet stormwater management facility. The additional impervious area required the design and permitting of a remote dry stormwater pond that would treat the stormwater runoff from an old neighborhood that freely discharged to the wetlands. The dry pond compensates for the new impervious and provides needed pre-treatment for the wetlands. We saved on design costs by re-using survey and design plans from 2008 as the base for the design. We also added a water line for a water fountain. To facilitate the project, GmuerEng subcontracted for soil borings for the new dry stormwater pond, designed the site plan, designed a minimal landscape plan, permitted the site plan with the City of Gainesville, GRU, and the St Johns River Water Management District.
